Kavala Chess 03: Ghosh and Das suffer shock defeats

IM Diptayan Ghosh (2531) and IM Sayantan Das (2444) suffered shock defeats to players rated lower than them in the second round. At the end of three rounds, they stand at 2.0/3.

Meanwhile, IM N. Srinath (2476) came back strongly after a first round draw to win the next two rounds. He stands at 2.5/3 and will now take on one of the higher seeds, Bulgarian GM Delchev (2604) in the fourth round.

Kavala Chess 01: Srinath suffers a draw as Ghosh and Das win

IM Narayanan Srinath (2476) suffered a draw at the hands of a much lower rated Apostolos Papapostolou (1971) to start with 0.5/1. The tournament is led by Israeli GM Evgeny Postny (2648).

IM Sayantan Das (2444) and IM Diptayan Ghosh (2531) won their respective games to move to 1.0/1.

Hogeschool Zeeland 05: Ankit Rajpara among leaders

GM Ankit Rajpara (2460) stood among the leaders after defeating compatriot Yogesh Gautam (2207) to move to 4.5/5.

Top seed GM Baadur Jobava (2664) meanwhile conceded two draws to players rated much lower than him to be left at 4.0/5. IM Arghyadip Das (2485) and IM Prasanna Rao (2424) are also standing at 4.0/5 while IM Somak Palit (2345) is at 3.5/5.

Hogeschool Zeeland 03: Rajpara and Palit among leaders

At the end of three rounds of play, India’s GM Ankit Rajpara (2460) and IM Somak Palit (2345) are among the leaders. All the top seeds managed to maintain a clean slate, with the exception of GM Michael Kresenkow (2616) who drew his third round game.

IM Prasanna Rao (2424) lost with the white pieces to a player rated below him to remain stranded at 2.0/3.

Hogeschool Zeeland Chess 01: Jobava and Van Wely lead the field

The 19th Hogeschool Zeeland Tournament took off with leading names such as Georgian GM Baadur Jobava (2664) and Dutch GM Loek Van Wely (2654) in the starting list. All the top seeds managed to win their games.

The Indian challenge consists of IM Argyadip Das (2485), GM Ankit Rajpara (2460), IM Prasanna Rao (2424), IM Somak Palit (2345) and untitled Yogesh Gautam (2207). There were no hiccups for the Indians as all of them registered victories.

Biel Chess 02: Navara beats Eljanov

Czech GM David Navara (2724) beat Ukrainian GM Pavel Eljanov (2723) to reach fifty percent.

Hungarian talent GM Richard Rapport (2671) meanwhile played a wild game against GM Michael Adams (2740), which eventually petered out into a draw. The other game between French GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (2731) and Polish GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek (2733) also ended in a draw.

Sant Marti 09: Kidambi wins the tournament

GM Sundararajan Kidambi (2433) drew his final round game to earn a draw and win the tournament with a score of 7.5/9. IM Shardul Gagare (2425), who was sharing the lead with GM Kidambi, tragically lost his final round game to GM Karen Grigoryan (2580) of Armenia, allowing the latter to catch up with GM Kidambi on 7.5/9. GM Grigoryan finished second while IM Gagare was third.

IM Diptayan Ghosh (2523) managed to defeat IM Swapnil Dhopade (2453) to finish at 6.5/9 while CM Abhimanyu Puranik (2328) finished at 6.0/9.

Biel 01: Adams sole winner

English GM Michael Adams (2740) was the sole winner in the first round of the Biel International Chess Festival. He managed to beat Czech GM David Navara (2724).

Hungarian GM Richard Rapport (2671) survived a scary position against Polish GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek (2733) who let his opponent off the hook. Defending champion GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (2731) of France meanwhile settled for a draw with Ukrainian GM Pavel Eljanov (2723).

Sant Marti 08: Kidambi and Gagare draw, maintain lead

GM Sundararajan Kidambi (2433) drew with compatriot IM Shardul Gagare (2425) to maintain both their leads, moving to 7.0/8.

Among the other Indians, IM Diptayan Ghosh (2523) will take on IM Swapnil Dhopade (2453) both standing at 5.5/8. CM Abhimanyu Puranik (2328) managed to upset GM Shyam Sundar M. (2492) while IM Sayantan Das (2444) suffered a loss, both of them also standing at 5.5/8.

India’s IM Shardul Gagare (2425) and GM Sundararajan Kidambi (2433) lead the tournament with 6.5/7. They now take on each other in the crucial penultimate round encounter with IM Gagare having the white pieces.

IM Sayantan Das (2444) is tied for third place at 5.5/7 while IM Diptayan Ghosh (2523) is playing at 5.0/7. A host of Indian players are placed at 4.5/7.
