Chicago Open: IM Jeffery Xiong wins

IM Jeffery Xiong (2497) beat GM Lazaro Batista (2684) to win the Chicago Open, 2015 with a score of 7.0/9, half a point ahead of GM Gata Kamsky (2673) and six others who tied for second place with 6.5/9.

Indian IM Ashwin Jayaram, who had earlier registered a GM norm performance, settled for a draw in his last round game to finish with 6.0/9.

Chicago Open: Nine players tied for lead, another norm for IM Ashwin Jayaram

Nine players were tied for lead at the end of eight rounds with 6.0/8. In the eighth round, the top board witnessed a crucial encounter between Cuban GM Lazaro Batista (2684) and America GM Gata Kamsky (2673) which ended in a draw.

IM Ashwin Jayaram of India meanwhile won his round eight encounter to move to 5.5/8 to score his GM norm. He has all the required norms and just needs to cross 2500 elo rating to become a Grand Master.

Khanty FIDE GP Rd10: Set for an Exciting Finish!

The 10th round of the Khanty Mansiysk FIDE GP 2015 saw some interesting twists as Jobava defeated overnight joint leader Dominguez while Jakovenko patiently overcame Karjakin to join Nakamura and Caruana at the top of the table. The rest of the games were drawn.

With one round to go, the trio of Jakovenko, Nakamura and Caruana are being closely followed by Dominguez and Gelfand with 5.5 points each.

Interestingly, Nakamura and Jakovenko are scheduled to clash in the last round of the tournament which makes the upcoming final round all the more exciting.

Khanty FIDE GP 09: Leaders Maintain

The 9th round of the Khanty-Mansiysk FIDE GP 2015 witnessed two decisive games as Giri overcame Jobava while Tomashevsky beat Svidler. The rest of the games ended in draws. However, the draw between Jakovenko and Gelfand saw a pretty finish with Gelfand leaving his Queen en-prise to force a nice stalemate.

After 9 rounds, Dominguez, Caruana and Nakamura lead the pack with 5.5/9 each. Three others – Gelfand, Jakovenko and Karjakin – are on the second spot with 5 points each. This leaves the field wide open with just two rounds to go.

Zalakaros Open Final: GM Kovalenko victorious!

After 9 rounds of gruelling chess at the Zalakaros Open 2015, GM Igor Kovalenko of Latvia came out on top with a total score of 7/9. Kovalenko had a terrible start to the tournament as he lost to IM Kantor Gergely in the very first round. However, he made a superb comeback as he won this strong open half a point ahead of his nearest rivals.

Meanwhile, 4 players tied for the second spot with 6.5/9, including India’s GM B. Adhiban.

Khanty FIDE GP 08: Caruana loses, still leads jointly

The 8th round of the on-going Khanty Mansiysk FIDE Grand Prix 2015 proved to be a dramatic one. Nakamura and Dominguez caught up overnight sole-leader Caruana at the top of the table as Jakovenko beat Caruana with the black pieces.

Amongst the other decisive results, Nakamura defeated Jobava in a game which was marred with mutual mistakes, despite the former dominating for the major part of the game. Also, Grischuk overcame Karjakin while Gelfand beat Svidler. This was Gelfand’s first win of the tournament after registering a rally of 7 consecutive draws.

Khanty FIDE GP 07: A day of White victories!

The 7th round of the Khanty Mansiysk FIDE GP 2015 saw the White side dominate with all 3 decisive results of this round going in White’s favour.

The most important result of the round (as regards the tournament standings) was Dominguez’s win over Svidler. With this victory, Dominguez leaped up to the 2nd spot.

Amongst other results, Giri overcame Tomashevsky whilst Nakamura defeated Vachier-Lagrave, who lost his 4th consecutive game.

After 7 rounds, Caruana leads the pack with 5/7, closely followed by Dominguez and Karjakin in the 2nd spot.

Sivakasi: GM Deepan Chakkravarthy wins

GM Deepan Chakkravarthy (2487) won the 1st SCS International Open, 2015 with a score of with 8.0/9. he tied for first place with IM V.A.V. Rajesh (2343) and Kunal M. (2323), but had a better tie-break.

The top seed of the event GM Murali Karthikeyan had to be content with the tenth place after scoring 7.5/9. The surprise of the event was who had a memorable tournament was Hemanth Raam (1903), holding GM R.R. Laxman (2424) to a draw to finish sixth with 7.5/9 on account of his tie-break.

Zalakaros Open Round 7: Boruchovsky in sole lead

The 7th round of the Zalakaros Open 2015 saw GM Boruchovsky maintain his sole lead with 6/7 as he overcame IM Wagner with the Black pieces. GM Kovalenko and GM Ragger are closely behind Boruchovsky with 5.5 points each.

Amongst Indians, GM Adhiban won his 7th round game against GM Ruck Robert to maintain his joint 3rd position while IM Sagar Shah successfully held GM Csaba Horvath to a draw.
